Back when I owned and operated the Modern Day Cafe, I was blessed to meet a couple who came in for a cup of coffee one day. Little did I realize that they were going to change my life in so many ways. They really looked at me and with their eyes knew inside what I am as a person and the potential of goodness to others was sitting in my heart waiting to blossom.
The names of these people are John and Valerie Backus. They lived only a few blocks from my old business and I would have never known what totally gave this couple the desire to make a difference but it was just that they did for my life. John and Valerie Backus through a non profit organization titled Lucky 7 donated $5000.00 to me to purchase a talking cash register and a new computer with talking software. This gift to me became a tool in my life that has been a large part of what has gotten myself and my family to the level we are today.
After knowing John and Valerie for many years, having a baby shower at their home, enjoying dinner together and just keeping and building our close relationship, I came to find out that John stepped forward to donate one of his kidneys to his good friend. This web site contains a 15 minute video that was filmed by the Son of John and Valerie titled "Decision to donate."
After listening to this video and walking through the story with the family and seeing what a man is in life I could not help but to cry and then cry my emotions of belief, love, heart and even more so what I often try to do in my own path and that is "Making the difference."
Please take the time to watch this video for it is a wake up call to what life is all about.
